The total basics in PS, AI, INDD

  • ⌘ + N New doc
  • ⌘ + O Open
  • ⌘ + S Save (do this at least once per minute automatically)
  • ⌘ + shift + S (always save intermediate versions, at least in PS and AI)
  • ⌘ + A select all
  • ⌘ + R show / hide rulers
  • ⌘ + + zoom in
  • ⌘ + – zoom out
  • ⌘ + C Copy
  • ⌘ + V Paste (AI and INDD got fancy paste in front, in place etc features)
  • ⌘ + P print
  • ⌘ + Z go back one step (In PS you have to use the History panel to go back more tan one step. In the presets you can set up, how many steps are ‘remembered’. In AI and INDD you can go back those many steps just by repeating ⌘ + Z
  • ⌘ + shift + Z Return from your step back .
Computers are great – you can travel in time. You go some steps back, copy something from the past and use it in the present. It’s magic.
  • ⌘ + H hide actual program
  • ⌘ + alt + H hide all other programs
  • ⌘ + Q Quit program

All shortcuts can be customized in the EDIT Menu of all three programs.
For the tool selection key, just rest the pointer on the symbol for a second without pressing.

In general

(outside PS, AI and INDD ! )

  • ⌘ + alt + esc when your program crashes (+/- never happens)
  • ⌘ + alt + P + R is for emptying the Parameter RAM. May be useful when things seem weird. Gives your processor some kind of a cleanup. When the machine is off, press the start button and then immediately the key combination. Keep it pressed until you’ve heard the boot sound for four times. Then release and the computer should boot normally. Do it from time to time.
  • ⌘ + D go to Desktop (when opening or saving file)
